KANGAR, 17 FEBRUARY, 2011: Fifty Perlis students who fled Egypt following unrest can heave a sigh of relief as their airline return tickets will be sponsored by a foundation. Yayasan Pok dan Kassim (YPK) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the foundation could only sponsor 50 of the 160 Perlis students who returned recently.
“We can only sponsor 50 students while the rest may be sponsored by Perlis Baitulmal,” he said when feting 150 students in Kuala Perlis last night.
The Tambun Tulang state assemblyman who went to Egypt to help Malaysians said the students need help to continue studies when the situation improves.
Meanwhile, Perlis Family of Students in Egypt president Syed Aisam Syed Idris said the government acted fast to rescue the students.
The Al-Azhar University student said Perlis students were among the earliest groups to be brought home during Ops Piramid.
